Coronavirus Thoughts

Stay safe!  Safety hat is optional.

Week four of the self imposed quarantine.  I am grateful for my health and the heath of my partner and family.  I am grateful for my employer who has worked to keep us safe and continues to pay my salary.  I am safe and comfortable.  Many are less fortunate.

If you can talk with crowds, but keep your distance,
Or walk with friends – nor lose the common touch,
If people stay away on your insistence,
If you can drink alone, but not too much.
If you can fill each unforgiving minute
With books and music, writing, song and dance,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
(Just cancel this year’s holiday in France.)

Word of the Day: Bioluminescence

We were walking the beach on Hutchinson Island on a dark night  one of my favorite places in the world, when my partner saw something shiny in the water.

Dreaming it could be some lost treasure from the 1715 Spanish Treasure fleet that sunk offshoot, we searched the surf carefully.

Our eyes soon focused on yellowing blue dots the size of large diamonds. Grasping the sand revealed a handful of sand but no treasure.  Looking closely these glowing dots were coming in at a rate of one or two per crashing wave.

The light from these plankton creatures is similar to the light of a firefly. A pretty amazing phenomenon.

Ours were not as dense as this photo. It pretty cool nonetheless.

Bruce Hanna $100,000 Winning Hockey Shot

d

That was an amazing shot.  Proud to say that was my dad!

He made the local news, as well as People Magazine and the Today Show.

If anyone has any connections for the Today Show archives, I would love to get a copy of that tape.

Definitely had his 15 minutes of fame.

Thought for the day

Losing a companion, Dusty

My dog, Dusty, is very ill.  The prognosis is grave.

He is not hungry and is declining to eat.  I fear the end is near.

A few thoughts on the loss of a great dog.

Dogs leave pawprints on our hearts” – Author Unknown

“Nobody can fully understand the meaning of love unless he’s owned a dog. A dog can show you more honest affection with a flick of his tail than a man can gather through a lifetime of handshakes.” – Gene Hill

“Sometimes losing a pet is more painful than losing a human because in the case of the pet, you were not pretending to love it.” – Amy Sedaris
“If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans.” – James Herriot
“Such short little lives our pets have to spend with us, and they spend most of it waiting for us to come home each day.” – John Grogan
